FROM WASTE TO WONDER

From Waste to Wonder was a architectural launch event offering a glimpse into the future of SILOS, Amsterdam’s next city landmark. We were brought in to develop a three-hour experience around the transformation of three enormous industrial silos on Zeeburgereiland. Because construction hadn’t started yet, the challenge was to make that future tangible and show how the city’s industrial past and future would come together in this new place for sustainability, work, and community.

For the event we used tactical placemaking principles to generate media attention, build community trust, and establish SILOS as a new architectural presence in the city. Together with Studio Raito, Marsha Simons from the Dutch Design Foundation, and the wider team, we developed an evening moving between conversation, culture, and community. The result was a launch event centred around a monumental light art show, using the construction site and its three SILOS as the backdrop for the narrative, helping guests see beyond the concrete and experience a first glimpse of what SILOS would become.
